Paper Edition Half Gone

I counted up the subscribers to the paper edition of Kobold Quarterly last night, and the print run is more than half sold out, one week after launch. That's less impressive than it might seem: the print run is tiny, by magazine standards.

The upside is the small run will make it insanely collectible if the magazine survives a year or three. It also means that if you were hoping for a paper magazine to fill some of the void left by Dragon's departure, now's your chance to pick one up. When this issue is gone, it will not be reprinted.

Well, I just paid my $20 for the upgrade - yeah!

My 14-year-old inhales all things D&D, but in the process really beats up the magazines. (He knows not to do that with the rule books, thank god.) Is there any way I can order an extra copy of No. 1 so I can have a non-mutilated copy for the ages?

Sure, I'll figure out the single-copy price and let you know. Heck, I might be able to combine shipping with your subscription.

That would be great. Thanks!

I'd be interested in picking up two extra print copies for the gaming stores here as well.

Hmmm...with the subscriber interest in promoting KQ, maybe it's time to have another poster design contest to gin-up some free advertising/publicity for Kobold Quarterly.

Yeah, I think Ben suggested something similar and I totally dropped the ball. I'll try to post the contest shortly; a Gen Con flyer and a FLGS flyer are both good possibilies.

Store Samplers
On that note, I'd be happy to buy some extra copies and leave them as samplers at my FLGS...assuming they'd be okay with that arrangement.

They probably would, since they let me post the Open Design flyer without any trouble.

Re: Store Samplers
Hmm. I can see that I need to figure out single-copy pricing ASAP.

That's great news!

I'd probably buy one or two singles myself.

How will getting back issues of the PDFs work? I'd love to subscribe to KQ, but I haven't got the spare money right now (or, frankly, much time to read it or even think about d20 stuff too much) and so I won't be subscribing for a while, but I'd like to get the back issues in PDF someday a well.

Oh, and I would love to submit some work in the future.

The PDFs will stay "in print" at Paizo, so you'll be able to pick them up down the road.

There's certainly a lot of interest in writing and drawing for the magazine, which I take as a good sign. There's submission guidelines over at wolfgangbaur.com, but for now, I'm limiting submissions to published writers and OD members. I just don't have the time to read a full-bore slush pile. Heck, I need interns. :)

I saw the part about published writers, which makes sense to me, you don't really have anough room to give unknowns a shot yet. All the more reason for me to get writing though!

And I'd totally be down for one of those intern spots, by the way!

Got mine today!
And it is wonderful! :)

Of course, having already read my PDF copy, I knew it would be... :)

Man, I still love the Kobold on the cover. I also like how bits of lore from previous OD projects have snuck into KQ and vice versa.

Re: Got mine today!
Thanks for the field report. Glad that they are not just going out but also *arriving*.

And yes, we're sneaky with those bits of lore... :)
