Shipping and Handling

Kobold
So the great majority of the print copies are off to subscribers, and now I'm trying to figure out how to reduce costs. It turns out there's a minimum circulation required for the US Post Office to provide the periodicals rate to a publisher, and Kobold Quarterly isn't quite big enough yet. Maybe next issue, but more likely with issue #3, I may be able to drop the shipping cost and use some of those funds to either pay more to writers and artists, or to print some interior color.

I'm an optimist. Gotta be, to get into the magazine biz, even in a small way. In the meantime, I'm filling out a form and talking with the USPS folks fairly often.

As a result of all this, I now have a rate for back issues; they cost $8 each, plus shipping of $3 in the US, $4 to Canada, and $6 elsewhere. I'm willing to combine shipping at that rate as well, so if you want to copies to Canada, say, it would be $16 plus $4 shipping. Thanks to everyone who inquired; I'll keep sending them out while supplies last.

Fix the boilerplate
I just received my print copy of KQ and noticed that the listed back issue price is $6.

Re: Fix the boilerplate
Yeah, that's only half-right. PDF back issues are $6, paper copies are $8 plus shipping. I'll update the text for issue #2. Thanks for pointing it out!

Yours sits in a place of honor! With a small yellow sticky that says "For [info]ephealy do not sell, spindle or mutilate"

Cool, I can't wait to get my copy in the mail. I'm not sure how long it will take but generally things get to Italy much faster than Okinawa.

I'm relieved to hear that you're talking to the USPS. I've dealt with their business reps (yes they have folks who do nothing but help businesses use their services) and those folks have been outstanding. Over the years I've had to set up postage due accounts, create barcodes for business reply envelopes, get expert help on using registered mail, and so on. My company once over-posted several hundred envelopes (to the tune of about $3,000) and worked with the USPS to get the extra back without having to redo every envelope. If anyone can help you, these guys can.

(And no, I don't work for them :) - I just happened to work in corporate mail services for 15 years.)

They have been nothing but class so far; explaining the jargon, helping me price things out, and even telling me which post office offers a better deal (go downtown to Seattle...).

My only problem now is finding enough subscribers to make print viable before
