The Empire of the Ghouls project is now complete and has shipped to the patrons who commissioned it. The final project came together at 160 pages and over 10 MB, offering an in-depth campaign against the Ghoul Imperium.

My thanks to all of the Ghoul patrons, and a Happy Halloween!

UPDATE: Brian M and Douglas R, your email seems to have bounced. Please respond here or send me a current email address, so I can get your copies to you. Thanks!

Nice timing!

I like how open in design it is. It's almost as much setting as adventure.

I'm thinking about retooling it to use the (very cool) great cave lake/ghoul king's tower map in Dungeons of Doom map book published by Green Ronin and illusrated/"cartographied" by Ed Bourelle.

Thanks! I think one of the things about long adventures is that they do have to be open-ended in many ways. There's just no way to account for every possibility of play over 3 or 4 levels of gameplay.

And Ed Bourelle rocks. I'm hoping some of his work may appear in a future Open Design book. He does great ships, for instance.

I'll have to go check out Dungeons of Doom.

How my players will love to hate Ghouls!

The more I see, the more I like
Wolfgang,

I hope you continue to utilize the artist that signs his work DMAC. (Darren Calvert?)

I very much like his style and would love to continue to see his illustrations in future Open Design projects and Kobold Quarterly!

I haven't had the chance to read much more of the pdf yet (then again, I've already read much of it during production) but once again, I feel my money is well spent!

And isn't that the ultimate test?

So far Empire rocks, but I have alot of trouble reading the captioning and title fonts. I may just be retarded.

I do like the art less this time around, but I still love the book overall.

Well, if enough people dislike the caption/title fonts, we can swap them out in the Errata Edition.

I like a lot of the art, but I spent a lot of time focussing on mappers. One of the unanticipated costs of a larger project was just how much more effort I spent finding new cartographers and artists over the life of the project.

I hope to improve the overall art with Arabian Nights; I've been able to secure a couple of great artists so far. And if you have a favorite artist you'd like to recommend, I'm open to suggestions...

Put me down as having trouble with the caption/title fonts. A minor quibble though since I can read everything else and I can figure out enough of the titles to have some idea of what lies below.
[info]justin_alexande wrote:

Ditto
And me, too. It's not that the fonts are difficult to read, it's that the font isn't in the file. It looks like the name of the font is WitchfinderScriptNew.

Doing a Google search, it looks like I'd have to pay another $19.00 to get the font. So this either needs to be embedded or it needs to be changed.

Plus, this'll probably mess up Lulu's ability to print the file. They require all fonts to be embedded.

Re: Ditto
Okay, played around a little bit and discovered that this problem only occurs if I open the PDF directly out of the ZIP file using WinZIP. If I first unzip the file and then open it, the font appears without any problem.

So if anyone is having problems, they might try unzipping the file and then opening it. It seems to have worked for me.

[info]open_design wrote:

They don't, really. These projects are written as private commissions and are limited editions.

Anyone who hasn't signed up as a patron can join the current project if they like it, and pick up Ghouls as a back issue.

Like most work done for patrons in the past, they're not meant to be widely available.

I'm a patron - in the sense of having paid, and having received the PDF, but never having figured out how to log in, or participate in the creative process.
I'd like to get a copy from Lulu. Can you help?

Thanks,
