Almost .... There!

Heraldry Germany
I've got two Open Design projects going well with early outlines and polls about 4E and Zobeck, but both need a few more patrons to actually meet the commissioning bar.

The first wave of pitches for Tales of Zobeck has been posted and voted on, and the second wave will be underway next week — if about 10 more patrons show up.
Sign up today and help shape the Zobeck campaign setting!

With the leak of 4E information, the 4th Edition adventure has had new things to discuss. The Wrath of the River King plan is to write an adventure that's not dumbed-down, beginner-level material, but a fully-developed plot arc with new monsters and a glimpse of the Feywild, plus the inside track from 4E playtesters. If you'd like design that challengesr experienced players, this is your project. Please donate and sign up today!

Did my signup to Zobeck come through?
Hi Wolfgang,

Did my support for Tales of Zobeck come through? I signed up using PayPal connected to my Credit Card. However I haven't seen any pitches and could vote on nothing. Please help.

Re: Did my signup to Zobeck come through?
Yes, the signup came through and I sent the invitation email on the 17th. However, without an LJ account to connect it to, I couldn't set up your access.

Obviously, I now have an LJ name and I have set up your access. You can vote on the first wave of pitches; the second wave hits in about a week.

Re: Did my signup to Zobeck come through?
I don't mean to involve myself... But I was just thinking.

This is only a suggestion, you're the boss.

We should take those commonly asked questions from the Kobold Quarterly forum, and turn them into a page at one of your websites. That way, when the greeting letter goes out, you can include a link with an url to that page. The new patron can then read how everything works, including an explanation of why OD uses LJ accounts.

And that may not even have been the situation in this case, I'm just speaking in general terms.

I think what happens is that sometimes OD attracts people just based on the concept, or the idea, and they don't necessarily have any experience or background with it. If that's the case, it's kinda nice that they're willing to give it a chance sight unseen.

This might smooth over these enrollment snafus..

Re: Did my signup to Zobeck come through?
Yep, good idea, and the FAQ at koboldquarterly.com is the way to go.

Gotta turn it from a forum thread into a page, though. Ok, first, gotta find the thread....

10 Patrons at what level of support?
Wolfgang,

You mentioned that Tales is about 10 patrons short of commission. Is that 10 patrons at the $750 level? or the lower level?

Just curious.

Re: 10 Patrons at what level of support?
Yes.. as I mentioned on the Kobold Quarterly site, if when the final hour comes and we're still short- if we know the actual shortage amount is, we the patrons could decide what we want to do about saving it.

For example, if the project is $400 short, and we have 98 patrons. that's about 4 more dollars per person. You might not feel comfortable asking for more, but we could possibly "pass the hat" and see what we can do voluntarily. Donating directly to you through Paypal of course, I'm just referring to getting the message out to everybody.

Obviously having more Patrons would be best, but it would give us some options.

Re: 10 Patrons at what level of support?
I would love to see patrons at the $750 level. :)

That is a dozen short of the regular members. Less than half a dozen senior patrons would work as well. Roughly $400 short.

Re: 10 Patrons at what level of support?
WHOOPS!!!!

:)

That is obviously a slip... I must have been doing the math in my head. 10 patrons and $75 is $750.

:)

Ok... $400... that should be VERY attainable I would think if it came down to not being commissioned or coming up with the $400. Especially with the PR guru that innercaine/watcher is.

Sheesh! :)

Advertise the Authors?
Now that at least a few of the tales are pretty much locked in, is there any chance of leveraging the names of the authors to pick up a few more patrons. Obviously one of them is Wolfgang's pitch, but perhaps one or two of the others is by another "big name" pro that might add some more name recognition for the masses. Or not.

Re: Advertise the Authors?
Well, the authors voted in so far include Tim Connors, me, and two of the senior patrons who, so far as I know, have not published previously.

Tim, in particular, is blazing talent in the pages of KQ, but I don't know if he is known more widely yet. Wait a year or two and I suspect his name will be familiar.

Re: Advertise the Authors?
I suspect Mr. Connors is somewhat well known - maybe not as well as Baur, or Logue, etc.

But Dungeon fans will surely remember "Spider Eaters" and the fantastic "Meenlock Prison."

You might yet snag a few patrons with his name attached to the project.

I used the maps and some of the descriptions in "Siege of the Spider Eaters" in my Skull & Bones/Pirates of the Caribbean campaign. Very handy!

Re: Advertise the Authors?
Cool, that is at least a name I recognize. I seem to remember that Meenlock Prison got some decent praise on Monte's Ptolus boards. Enough at least that I picked up that issue of Dungeon and plan to run it here shortly.

Hey everyone!

Me, famous? One can only hope! Seriously though, thanks for the praise. I'm glad you guys liked the Dungeon adventures that my wife Eileen and I wrote. And thanks for voting for "Tail of the Mouse King." Eileen and I work as a team, particular for adventures, and we promise to kick ass on our first Open Design assignment!

I can't wait to see what you do with Tail of the Mouse King.

Really liked Meenlock prison and I'll be using it as a kick off adventure for my new campaign next week. Siege of the Spider Eaters, well, um, er, I thought it was really weird.

Re: Advertise the Authors?
I'm not the type of person who would rant in the Letters section of Dungeon that such and such adventure didn't match my campaign/was too high level/was too low level/too silly/too gothic etc. Clearly not every adventure will appeal to every person, Spider Eaters didn't 'do it' for me, although I'd wager some really liked it. I'd never say it was a waste as I often annex bits like maps and NPCs without running the adventure as written, which I suspect is a common practice. Looking forward to Tim and Eileen's work.

Re: What about Wrath?
About 75 patrons with two weeks to go. I don't know where that puts it in relation to Zobeck, but it is further behind.. Just with more time to catch up.

I'd go campaign more for it.. but I, personally, have done my best for Wrath. I must pass the torch now, or it must sell itself.

I really want it to go though... If it was just a matter of a few bucks, I'd cough some more up.

I've held off signing up for Wrath until Zobeck is started. I plan to support them both but just wanted to see Zobeck first.

I think that is fairly safe assumption now friend. :)

An it's an interesting point though, I wonder if pitting them in a race stood either in good stead. Then again, it might not have made any difference.

Hi Wolfgang -

Any way that I can send an extra $10 your way to help meet the commission requirement for "Zobeck"? I don't expect any extra perks or anything, just anxious to see the project get going.
[info]open_design wrote:

Sure, you can send it directly by PayPal to my email address (my name at gmail). At this stage, every bit helps!

I just sent Wolfgang $15.00. Together you and I just made up for one Patron.

Just a few more to go.

Since I was much more into Court of the Shadow Fey than Zobeck I cut back my donation from the senior to patron when I switched it. I'll throw some of the difference back to see Zobeck happen.

Did you get the money that I sent you? I recently had a temporary hold placed on my credit card, and I want to make sure that it didn't also block my PayPal donation to OD.

I should have a tally shortly.

What's the verdict? If were still a bit short I'll add another $35 and become a senior patron.

Over at the KQ forums, Wolfgang mentioned we were only $100 shy of the goal. Your $35 would help, or else Wolfgang may have to cut two interior art pieces.
[info]open_design wrote:

We are indeed that little bit short. If you can step up as a senior patron, please do so.

And hey, that would mean you can write a pitch for the 2nd round!
[info]krell1 wrote:

Although Fey was my favorite I'll make an additional donation. The belief that that your Zobeck sourcebook should have proceeded Tales still nags me. Without your background I don't have the right mindset to craft a pitch :(

Ah, there is the Zobeck setting outline available, but yeah, it's not the same as a complete sourcebook.
