Support the Gaming Arts and Sciences

With the release of the 4E core books, the 4E adventure discussion for Wrath of the River King has heated up a bit. One of the patrons has posted a new monster design over in the KQ forums, and we're talking through some likely encounters.

Unfortunately, though, the project has not yet been commissioned, so there's no way yet to pay for art, maps, and final text. I'm looking for a few more patrons interested in a professional-quality adventure set in the Feywild. Your donation goes directly to the fine mappers, designers, and artists of Open Design. Please sign up today!

Wolfgang,
It truly pains me to turn you down, but I won't support 4E. Sorry.

This is not a jab at Krell1, but I do hope that those who are not interested in 4E will not vote with their objections and frustrations, but just their non-participation.

It's easy to see if this project has sustainability by just waiting to see if it gets funded or not. Economic darwinism will get "Wrath" if that is what is to be, there's no need to put a thumb on the scale. This isn't really a poll, it's an invitation. An invitation that one is free to decline by simply not doing it.

Why not? Because there are people who would like to see the project funded and written, and it doesn't seem cricket to not merely withold support, but protest so that others who might otherwise be interested as driven off.. or made to think that there is less support for this than there actually is.

I'm looking forward to this, and hope we get some more folks!

No offense taken, I've been called much worse, by much better :). You'll note that I said that I'd not support it, not that anyone who did was a an idiot/moron/etc. Folk who are into 4E should support with cash. When Zobeck was shy I threw in another $50. I wanted to be clear: I'm not supporting 4E because I don't want to, not because I can't afford to. That may be important to Wolfgang moving forward.

You know, none of the people who have commented on any of the forums Wolfgang hosts I can see (and I can't see them all) have ever said anything to degrading about those who support 4e or OD doing a 4e project. Rather, I will be the first to wish you all luck with the new game. I hope it helps you spend THOUSANDS of happy hours with your friends--that is the point of roleplaying, after all.

What we have said is that we won't support 4e. When asked, we provide sound reasons why 4e is a problem to us.

Since a forum is about providing opinions, I can't see why we would need to remain quiet. You ARE right Innercaine, this isn't a poll. However, this isn't JUST an invitation, but also a discussion.

In fact, I have directed several people to Wolfgang's Wrath project specifically because I think he does great work. I hope that Wrath succeeds, as long as it doesn't prevent future 3.5 OD projects. How many more subscribers do you need right now Wolfgang?

Quite a few people have shown up today to support Wrath and 4E adventure design, so .... Lessee. I think we're about 25 patrons shy of meeting the commission.

So is that how you are making these separate product lines:

3x edition stuff--Open Design (OD)
4x edition stuff--Adventure Design (AD)

If so, I like it. It gives a clear delineation to the two things, and has a nice hidden philosophical message about the differences between OGL and GSL. Sweet!

I sent someone your way after discussing OD with them at GameDay... he told me he'd just signed up. Looking forward to presenting an alternative.

Good on you!

I gave a patronage away as a gift to a long distance friend of mine.. he's Amber guy who is also excited by 4E, and I thought he'd enjoy it. He's busy this week with the end of his callege term, so I don't expect to see him post till the weekend at the earliest..

I did that for 2 friends during 6AN, and I think one stuck around for BotG, but both have been too busy to participate much, though they loved the concept.

And you know, as a selling feature.. Wrath isn't any more expensive than Shadowfell (so I told my friend who was worried about the cost I might be spending on his behalf), and provides a lot of entertainment over time even before you actually get to run the final version.

Little talking point there. :D

Yep, sent my patronage last night. Thanks, Ben, for pointing me in the direction of OD!

Having played two sessions of 4e at the weekend, I am very keen to see Wrath get commissioned. The system itself is fine but we do much better than Keep on the Shadowfell based on what I've experienced so far as a player!

For Whom 4E tolls
I have been pretty clear where i stand on this, but there have ben interesting points raised.

Krell is right IMHO to make a statement to fellow patrons/supporters as to his view. Also Inner makes a valid point as to "natural selection".

However - and speaking from my second job which involves community engagement I would point out that people not subscribing only proves that they are apathetic to that concept (not necessarily the whole design per se). By eliciting a positive (negative). ie I will not support this it gives a clearer steer as to gamer intentions and therefore, commercially, is worth commending and encouraging.

We need (we?) Wolfgang I am sure may appreciate getting a feel for where he should be pitching future projects.

Sorry if I have gone on too long here, by the way did I mention that I will not support 4E, never, ever unless of course they produce an adventure where Chupacabra is the focal point (hey in joke for long time supporters of Blood of the Gorgon!)

But really 4E sorry! Commercialism rampant

Re: For Whom 4E tolls
You make a solid point. After I drove home from work I realized how steadfastly I am against anyone "silencing" another Patron.

I'm afraid I might have been a bit of a hypocrite. So I take back what I said.

But sometimes, these threads just seemed to get bogged down though. It comes across if one person has a preference, one way or another, it demands for the other side to try to cancel them out. And that doesn't always leads to productive communication.

But yeah.. I concede expressing that you won't supporting is as much as right as non-participation

I sent another $50.00. I realize that there are and likely will be people who won't switch to 4e. That's fine. Having played it and DM'd it now...I like it, and am looking forward to lots of 4e gaming at GenCon. I like 3.5e too. I'm a patron of Blood of the Gorgon and now am (almost) a senior patron of Wrath. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what Wolfgang and Nick and others can and will do with the system.

you're going to GenCon? You should go check the koboldquarterly.com forum thread on the Wrath playtest game-- we're trying to fill out the table and find the best time. If you're patronizing at that level, I belive you're eligible to play.

I'm cgplayer2000 (don't ask) on the KQ forum. I'll check, but I proposed for a Saturday afternoon time. Thanks!

I've put a note about Wrath on this ENWorld thread. No idea if this was the best one to post on but my Search function has vanished :(

Question about setting up patronage gifts: how is this done? I might like to do that for a few people...

I just put a note with the PayPal payment, then provided Wolfgang with my friend's email address.

Yep, that works. The number of patrons is small enough that I handle special requests on the back end.

Tried to stay away, but if members are already building and modifying 4e monsters I think I want to have a hand in that.

I'm in!
Just sent my payment off. I'm looking forward to following the discussions and hopefully doing some contributing of my own. Work is getting a bit much these days, so I haven't been as active as I wanted to be in the Gorgon project.

Anyway - just wanted to say I'm behind this one too and I'm looking forward to seeing what's going on.

Cheers, Mr. Wolgang, sir. Glad to be here!

I was about to make a second favourite for Open Design to cover the new project but it seems like I can just use the same link, only I see more now. Is that right?

That is entirely 100% correct!

However, if you want a link that is specific to this project, you can use the tags on the left to create one like so:
